How and Why Our Services Work
Goose Control

canadian nesting geeseCanadian geese and snow geese, once revered as beautiful symbols of the majesty of nature, are now perceived by many as just common pests. The geese have populated neighborhoods, parks, condos, apartment complexes, business office parks, corporate headquarters, golf courses, sports fields and recreational waters.

They foul ponds, ruin lawns and picnic areas, make navigating sidewalks and parking lots difficult and can be downright disgusting. During the spring and summer, their aggressive behavior have become a major liability problem wherever they are allowed to live, possibly holding the property owner liable for injuries incurred.

The geese no longer tend to migrate. We have built "goose heavens" with retention ponds, manicured grass and no predators. What more could a goose want? Our typical program includes two visits per day beginning in February and continuing through October. Resident geese are evicted and new arrivals are quickly expelled. In a nutshell, we just don't allow the geese to be there.

 Why The Border Collie?

pataskala goose dogsThe border collie uses its “eye” to stalk the birds in its attempt to herd. There is no barking or rapid movement because the geese quickly feel threatened when a predator has them in its sight. No other breed of dog possesses the trait known as the “eye” and no other dog upsets the geese as quickly as the border collie.

As the birds feel threatened, they will move into the water.  The border collie will continue the herding process and follow the geese into the water in its attempt to herd the geese. It is only a matter of time before the geese choose to leave as the border collie is relentless in completing its job.

This is a process; results will be obvious quickly but it may take several seasons to convince a goose to nest elsewhere.

Using Dogs For Control

The technique of using natural enemies has been used over and over again to control a wide range of problem animals and pests. The use of chemical lawn applications, pyrotechnics, wire around ponds, inflatable crocodiles, etc. usually work for only a short period of time and will not seriously deter a pair intent on nesting on your property. Sticking close to nature with the predator/prey concept while not actually capturing is a very humane method to deal with this problem.

Go Geese Go uses only highly trained working border collies to rid your property of geese. If you have seen the movie "Babe," then you will have an idea of how the process works.
